About

At Winning Strategies Washington, our work is more than a profession, it’s a calling. Each of us entered politics and public policy for the right reasons, we wanted to make a positive difference in the world. That foundational goal continues to guide us.

Our philosophy and approach to government affairs is simple: do the job until the job is done. In terms of how we operate, our time-tested approach to client-focused advocacy is to serve as a natural extension of our clients’ in-house team. For many of our WSW clients, our team operates as their turn-key presence in Washington, DC. We differentiate ourselves from other Washington consultants who sit back and dole out sage advice; instead, our team is on Capitol Hill and in Executive Branch agencies on a daily basis actively championing and advancing our clients’ interests. You can be confident that our team of professionals will represent your organization in a positive and ethical manner at all times.

WSW has an impressive 25-year track record of processing complex policy issues and funding requests into proposals that make a Member’s advocacy on behalf of a particular client a natural extension of their own legislative and political agendas. This proactive engagement of Members of Congress and their staff is a distinctive feature of WSW’s approach to government affairs and a hallmark of our success, whether it is securing funding through the annual appropriations process, passing authorization legislation or navigating the intricacies of the regulatory process. WSW builds “win-win” situations between our clients, their Members of Congress and key decision-makers in Congress and the Administration.

In all our efforts on your behalf, WSW will be hands-on, efficient, service-oriented and driven by quantifiable results and measurable success. We have structured our firm to ensure that an experienced principal manages every aspect of your engagement, guaranteeing timely, effective, and responsive support. Most important, we conduct all our activities to the highest ethical standards. You can be confident that your organization will be represented by a team of dedicated professionals who are as passionate about your mission as you are.

Our Purpose & Culture

We Help Make The Good Happen

What We Believe In

We are scrappy, nimble and outthink the competition. There are no armchair warriors at WSW; we are a team of doers.

We are honest and ethical at all times, no matter the consequences.
We always do what is best for our clients and never forget we are in the customer service business. We are fanatics about response time and building trust with our clients.
Everyone at WSW got into politics and public policy for the right reasons: to make a difference in our communities and the world. We always focus on both financial and social impacts, and endeavor to work on behalf of causes, not just clients. We always look for ways to improve the lives of others while working to achieve our clients’ goals.

We are team-based and value diverse perspectives, seek input from teammates of all backgrounds, and learn from others. We collaborate effectively by putting the team’s needs above personal agendas and working together toward common goals.

We’re passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity, and encourages, supports, and celebrates our employees. Our approach to diversity is simple—it’s about embracing everyone and building a culture where all employees can bring their best selves to work.

How We Act

While our “strategies” are strong, our actions are what lead to “winning” outcomes. Therefore we have taken the time to define 30 key “Fundamentals” everyone at WSW strives to live by every day. Here’s a sample of them:

Always remember we are in the business of customer service. At WSW, it’s all about our clients, not us. Collaborate with the client to develop and execute a strategy that delivers the best solutions for their needs, even if those solutions are different from what the client initially envisioned.
Respond to questions and concerns quickly, whether its in person, on the phone or by email. This includes simply acknowledging that we got the question and we’re “on it” as well as keeping those involved continuously updated on the status of outstanding issues. Respect each other’s time and don’t make others chase you for a response.
Approach every situation by looking for ways we can rather than explaining why we can’t. Be resourceful and show initiative. Don’t make excuses or wait for others to solve problems. Take personal responsibility for making things happen and ensure that you follow up on everything.
Build trust and foster positive relationships with clients and colleagues by learning about their needs and interests and understanding their goals. Offer honest feedback and candid counsel. Understand what makes others tick and what’s important to them. Build strong relationships that will enable us to work through difficult issues and challenging times.
Do what you say you’re going to do when you say you’re going to do it. be on time for all calls, appointments and other commitments. If an obligation can’t be fulfilled, notify the impacted parties early and offer a “Plan B.”
