Good science and good funding policy make a great match. When a liberal arts college turned to WSW for help with a critical National Science Foundation (NSF) grant, detailed, patient planning was rewarded in full. When the NSF reviewers delivered their initial comments on the originally unsuccessful proposal, WSW organized a meeting at NSF between the Principal Investigator (PI) and the institution’s program manager to discuss the project. Based on the direct discussion and WSW’s review and edits to the proposal, WSW and the PI revised the application and resubmitted during the next funding window. Because of these changes, the second time around, the institution’s application was successful.
